Your house is leaking $ We seal it.
Most older New York homes lose a third or more of their heat through the attic, walls and gaps. We match you with vetted, licensed contractors for insulation, heating and cooling, roofing and solar, and we handle the rest: the assessment, the program forms, the rebates and the scheduling. You get one point of contact from first call to final inspection.
Eligible homeowners may qualify for no-cost upgrades through NYSERDA EmPower+.
What we do
Fix the house first. Then power it.
Order matters. Seal and insulate before you size a heat pump and you can buy a smaller one. Electrify before you size solar and the panels cover your real future load.

Energy assessment
Find where the money leaks
A 2–3 hour visit to your home. We run a blower-door test, scan walls and ceilings with an infrared camera, check your attic or roof cavity, and review your boiler, AC and hot water. You get a written report ranked by payback.
- Blower-door air leakage test
- Thermal imaging
- Combustion safety check on gas and oil equipment
- 12 months of Con Ed, National Grid or PSEG Long Island bills reviewed
-
Insulation & air sealing
Keep the heat you pay for
Usually the cheapest upgrade with the fastest payback. We seal the gaps the blower door found, then insulate the roof cavity, walls and basement rim.
- Dense-pack cellulose for rowhouse roofs and walls
- Air sealing at the cornice, chases and rim joists
- Basement and crawlspace insulation
-
HVAC
Heat pumps for heating and cooling
One system replaces the old boiler or furnace and the window units. Cold-climate heat pumps keep working well below freezing, and a tighter house means a smaller system.
- Ductless mini-splits for rowhouses without ducts
- Ducted heat pumps where ductwork already exists
- Heat pump water heaters
- Sized with a room-by-room load calculation
-
Roofing
A roof that's ready for the next 25 years
A leaking or aging roof undoes insulation and has to come off before solar goes on. We inspect it at the assessment, then repair or replace it so everything above and below it lasts.
- Flat roofs for rowhouses
- Shingle roofs for Long Island homes
- Roof insulation done at the same time
- Timed so solar goes on a new roof, not an old one
-
Solar
Solar, sized last
Once the house uses less, we size solar to the new load, including the heat pumps. Flat city roofs and pitched Long Island roofs both work. We handle permits (DOB and FDNY in the city, town permits on the Island) and your Con Ed or PSEG Long Island net-metering application.
- Enphase panel-level systems
- Flat-roof racking laid out around FDNY access paths
How we work
We run the project. Vetted pros do the work.
Vetted contractors only
Every installer we bring in is licensed, insured and proven on New York jobs. We match each part of your project to the crew that does it best, and we don't push work your house doesn't need.
Hands-off for you
EmPower+, Comfort Home and utility rebates each have their own forms. We fill them out, file them, schedule the crews and follow up, so the savings actually land and you don't chase anyone.
20+ years in New York homes
Our team brings more than 20 years of combined home services experience, from brownstones with steam radiators to Long Island capes with leaky attics.

The assessment visit
What happens when we come over.
Book and send bills
Pick a time and text us photos of a recent Con Ed, National Grid or PSEG Long Island bill. We check incentive eligibility before we arrive.
Walk-through and tests
A certified energy auditor runs a blower door test and infrared scan, inspects the attic and basement, and checks every piece of heating and cooling equipment.
Your report
A plain-English report within a few days: what we found, what to fix first, costs, and the rebates that apply.
Upgrades, in order
We line up vetted contractors for each step, from air sealing and insulation to the heat pump, roof and solar, and manage the schedule and paperwork. You can stop at any step.

SolarFrom the founder
The cheapest energy is the energy your house stops wasting.
I grew up in Brooklyn and I've spent my career in New York homes, from the boroughs out to Suffolk. Since 2018 I've worked on more than a thousand of them. The ones that got the best results fixed the building first: sealed it, insulated it, swapped out the old boiler. NY Home Upgrade connects homeowners with the best contractors I've worked with, in that order, and our team handles the forms and follow-up so you don't have to.

FAQ
Questions we hear on every stoop.
What does an energy assessment cost?
Income-eligible homeowners can often get one at no cost through NYSERDA EmPower+. For everyone else, we'll quote a flat fee up front and tell you if any program covers part of it.
Do I really need insulation before a heat pump?
You don't have to, but it usually saves money. A sealed, insulated house needs a smaller heat pump, which costs less to buy and to run.
Will a heat pump keep my house warm in January?
Yes. Cold-climate heat pumps are rated to heat well below freezing. Our contractors size them from a room-by-room load calculation, not a rule of thumb.
I have radiators and no ducts. What are my options?
Ductless mini-splits are the usual answer for rowhouses, brownstones and older Long Island homes. Some homes keep the boiler as backup for the coldest days.
Do I need a new roof before solar?
If your roof is near the end of its life, yes. Panels have to come off for a later roof replacement, which adds cost. We check the roof at the assessment and tell you straight.
Why is solar last?
Solar should match the load you'll actually have. After insulation and heat pumps, your usage changes, so we size the panels once the rest is settled.
Do you do the installs yourselves?
No. We manage your project and match you with licensed, insured contractors we've vetted on past New York jobs, including program-approved contractors where a program like EmPower+ requires one. We stay your single point of contact the whole way.
Will you sell my information?
No. Your details go to us and, with your OK, only to the contractor matched to your job.
